County Cross

LOCATION: 10 Miles North of Calvert City
JURISDICTION: Raritan County

County Cross is located on the long northern road to New York (US 1) about 10 miles out of Calvert City. There is a small downtown area with a petrol station owned by Jersey Standard, a boarding house, a hotel, a funeral parlor, and some other staples of organized American life. County Cross was the site of several minor skirmishes in the American Revolutionary War and the town center is graced with a statue of General Washington.

Outside the downtown area, County Cross encompasses masses of forested land in Raritan County. Isolated farms and homesteads dot the lanscape, and most of the roads off of US 1 are not paved.
